Arch Hellen Med, 33(4), July-August 2016, 624-629 REVIEW Diabetes mellitus and pancreatic disease A.K. Papazafiropoulou, A. Trik Κalinou, Α. Μelidonis |
A growing body of evidence links pancreatic damage with impairment in glucose homeostasis. Recent epidemiological studies have shown a relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and the risk of pancreatic carcinoma or pancreatitis. The therapeutic approach to pancreaticogenic DM needs to take into account the individual characteristics of each patient and the properties of the available glucose-lowering drugs.
Key words: Diabetes mellitus, Glucose homeostasis, Pancreatic carcinoma, Pancreatitis.
