OBJECTIVE To translate and validate the Short Trust in Automation Scale (STIAS) in a sample of the general population in Greece.
METHOD We applied the forward-backward translation method to adapt the S-TIAS into Greek. Reliability was assessed by calculating Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency and conducting a test-retest procedure to determine stability using the intraclass correlation coefficient. Construct validity was evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis, while concurrent validity was examined by correlating S-TIAS scores with those from the Artificial Intelligence Attitude Scale (AIAS-4).
RESULTS We found that the S-TIAS had very good reliability since the intraclass correlation coefficient for the test-retest was 0.962 (95% confidence interval [CI]=0.915 to 0.983, p<0.001). Moreover, Cronbach's coefficient alpha for the S-TIAS was 0.912. We found that the Greek version of the S-TIAS had a one-factor structure as the original version. All indices indicated an acceptable one-factor model. In particular, RMSEA was <0.001, GFI was 1.000, IFI was 1.000, NFI was 1.000, and CFI was 1.000. Concurrent validity of the Greek version of the S-TIAS was very good since we found statistically significant correlation between the S-TIAS and the AIAS-4 (r=0.608, p<0.001).
CONCLUSIONS The Greek version of the S-TIAS is a reliable and valid tool to measure trust towards artificial intelligence in the general population.
