The contribution of smart digital cities to the transition towards sustainable health care systems

Smart digital cities (SDCs) constitute an emerging paradigm of sustainable urban development, where technological innovation is harmonized with social well-being. Within the framework of digital governance, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) enhances the effectiveness of public services and empowers citizen participation. In the field of health care, SDCs incorporate applications such as telecare, telemedicine, and digital technologies for the protection of public health, offering personalized and remote care, particularly for vulnerable populations. Successful examples, such as the "myResponder" app in Singapore and the telecare system implemented by the Municipality of Trikala in Greece, demonstrate the operational potential of smart cities for rapid response and preventive care. At the same time, innovative technologies such as wearable biosensors upgrade preventive medicine and support independent living. Overall, SDCs constitute an interdisciplinary and human-centered model of urban planning, oriented toward sustainable, equitable, and technologically enhanced public health.
